Encyclopedia of Earth and Space Science - Timothy Kusky, 873 Pages
Following in the footsteps of Encyclopedia of Physical Science (2009), Encyclopedia of Life Science (2009), and others, this work is intended to complement material typically used in high-school and college science classes. In it, 250 entries cover concepts, theories, subdisciplines, methods, techniques, important people, and other topics related to earth and space science. Entries range from less than 1 to more than 20 pages in length. Examples of entries include Biosphere; Dark matter; Darwin, Charles; Deserts; Earthquakes; Geophysics; Hubble; Mesozoic; North American geology; Ozone hole; Quasar; and Supernova. Also there are 12 feature essays, for example, “The Search for Extraterrestrial Life” and “Tsunami Nightmare.” Each entry and feature essay ends with a further-reading list. The more than 300 illustrations comprise color photographs as well as tables and charts. Preceding the A–Z portion of the text is a list of “Entries Categorized by National Science Standards for Content (Grades 9–12).” Following the entries are a chronology, a glossary, a geological timescale, conversion tables, the periodic table of elements, and more.
