Tales of Aradia the Last Witch – L.A. Jones, 192 Pages
- The Salem Witch Trials were as we all know a horrific turning point in history. It showed people how far their paranoia could lead them to; murder, persecution, and betrayal. Unknown to the humans, however, there were actually real witches located not just in Salem but all over the world including other magical beings like fairies, vampire, werewolves etc.
However, once the events of the Salem Witch trials came to be the other races began to fear exposure to the humans and without so much as a second thought all the witches of the world were hunted down and killed. There was not one witch whom survived the genocide or at least that’s what all the vampires, werewolves, and other races thought. But one day a girl named Aradia moves to Salem, MA and all that changes.
- "We have done nothing wrong!" The cry echoed in Rome's ears as he kept his face stony still. He stood at the head of the room and watched as his men performed their gruesome duties. Screams were heard from the people being hung. The women's blouses were soaking wet from sweat and tears as their sobbing competed with the children. The ones who were already hanging with ropes around their necks kicked their feet in the air. Their cries were muffled by the bags tied over their heads. Some were dragged as weak as dolls to their places of death. A broken look in their eyes from seeing their loved ones killed and not wanting to continue. One of them, however, managed to break free of her captor's hold and raced towards the door. Rome noticed this though, using his vampire speed that could rival lightning, he headed her off. He grinned as he slammed the double doors behind him, completely blocking her escape. The woman stopped, fell to the ground, and tried to push herself away from Rome. As frightened as she was, she could not help but demand, "Why are you doing this to us? We have committed no crime!" Rome scoffed loudly. "Oh but you have committed a crime. The gravest of them all, treason! More than a thousand years have gone by with the humans being unaware of our existence, but now they know about the hidden race. At least they now know about you, and your people, the witches. How else would they know unless one of you told them? You have betrayed us all! You and your people know the law; we of the hidden race must remain hidden for all eternity no matter what. Those who break the law must be destroyed. That is why you and all of your people are condemned. In order to protect the rest of the hidden, you must die!" "I still don't understand. How is killing us all helping to protect the rest of the hidden race?" she demanded. Rome snickered as he reached out, grabbed the woman's neck, and broke it in a mere matter of seconds. "It's good measure," he said with a snort. "And besides..." He trailed off looking at the shrieking and crying people being hung from the rafters. "It's fun!" Suddenly, one of his soldiers tapped him on the shoulder. Irritated at the interruption, he turned around to growl, "What?" Quaking a little, the solider nevertheless continued by saying, "I am sorry sir, but after checking the records of the people in the coven, I have discovered that there appears to be two missing." This definitely aroused Rome's interest. "Who could possibly be missing?" he snapped. The solider gulped before he nervously spat out, "The seer of the coven and a baby." Another soldier appeared at Rome's right and said, "So what if a mere woman and child are missing, they are not worth killing!" Rome whipped around and slapped the soldier hard across the face. The soldier then fell to the floor with his lip bleeding and a murderous look in his eyes. "Didn't you hear what I told her?" Rome said as he pointed to the dead woman who lay at his feet. "It's good measure." One of the other soldiers overheard the conversation and hoping to curry his commander's favour; he offered to go dispose of them for him. Rome shook his head and said, "No. I will deal with it myself!" The white light that greeted Rome upon reaching the little cottage was so blinding that he almost fell completely backwards. Regardless, he continued to move towards the cottage.
