Outsmarting Google: SEO Secrets to Winning New Business, 239 Pages
- I was looking for books on SEO and stumbled across Evan Bailyn's book Outsmarting Google. I tend to look at publication dates and read the most current text available as oppose to just the title. Having said that, I have read several SEO books to get a general understanding of what the so called smart minds are doing out there so I can implement the same science. However Evan's book stood out above the others. He takes bold stances and a younger world view on a subject that is still in it's infancy by comparison to other industries.
Evan's take on what is important is not just the inner mechanics of a website but rather the trusted content on the page. For example, I have read over and over how important it is to optimize a website so it can roll out the red carpet to Google's web crawlers. However, those other books do not seem to understand that the content is the most important aspect of a webpage and not the html code. When the content of a website is great, trusted and brings in consistent traffic from web surfers, then Google will want to index that website or page based on the quality of the content not code! This was a big wake up call to me and something that was just obvious but no one had ever pointed out.
Again, Evan does a great job at presenting material from a perspective not taken yet by others in this industry. He gives you a brand new and almost common sense take at what Google looks for so you can better address those issues rather than what dozens of so called experts tell you to focus which in fact side tracks your content instead of sending down the yellow brick road. Moreover, instead of just building links to your website Evan suggests a everything including the kitchen sink approach to search engine optimization.
- “There are millions of idiots running around calling themselves Gurus. Evan is different. He goes in and simply gets it done the right way—legally, quick, and smart. Every company I start goes through Evan. I’d be crazy not to use him.” —Peter Shankman
